Javier Rivas

Javier Rivas is a writer, teacher, cultural organiser, and Ph.D. researcher in the Music Department at King’s College London. He has taught cultural management, music, and anthropology at KCL, UCL, and ESMUC, and has presented his work at institutions across Europe and the United States, including the University of Oxford. His research, teaching, and outreach engage with contemporary debates in music studies, seeking to imagine new spaces and practices grounded in radical care, inclusion, equality, and diversity. His work has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals, including Ethnomusicology Forum and the International Journal of Community Music.
Javier has served as a Trustee of Water City Music and, since June 2025, has managed the charity as Administrator. He brings experience in programme evaluation, applied research, and widening-participation initiatives in education, including his current role as Project Manager for the King’s College London–Water City Music partnership in Southwark, London. He is also a Trustee of the Lucille Graham Trust.
